Scola Teloni was founded from a long tradition of craftsmanship that has its roots in the city of Mantua, an area rich in history and culture. Founded in 1880 by Antonio Magri, the company is now a unique family business, proudly run by the fifth generation.
Over the course of more than 140 years, the company has evolved while remaining faithful to its founding values: quality, reliability, attention to detail and passion for its craft. What was once a workshop specialising in the manufacture of tarpaulins for agriculture and transport carts is now an international benchmark in the production of Marquees, the iconic circus and entertainment tents.
The company was founded in 1880 by Antonio Magri, who began producing tarpaulins made from natural fibres such as hemp and cotton for agricultural and commercial use. In the early 20th century, under the guidance of his daughter Iside and son-in-law Oreste Poletti, the business expanded, introducing the first tents for circuses and travelling shows.
In those years, tarpaulins were waterproofed with paraffin and treated with verdigris to protect them from mould and bad weather. Once the sheets had been cut, the skilled craftsmen of the time joined them with sturdy seams and completed them with the application of leather straps and metal buckles, necessary for the final assembly of the tent.
Under the guidance of the third generation, siblings Iris and Marcello Poletti ensured operational continuity even during the two world wars. In those difficult years, the company put its craftsmanship at the service of the country, supplying tents and tarpaulins for army units and vehicles.
The post-war period saw an important turning point with the arrival of Gianfranco Scola, the son of Iris Poletti, whose contribution marked the beginning of a new era for the family business. Under his leadership, between the 1960s and 1970s, the first reinforced PVC composite materials and modern welding machines for plasticised fabrics were introduced. Thanks to these innovations, the company produced its first PVC-coated tarpaulins, a production breakthrough that opened the doors to foreign markets and propelled the business onto a prestigious international stage.
In the early 1980s, the company moved from its historic city factory to new, larger and more modern premises located along the Mantua-Brescia state road. After the tragic death of Gianfranco Scola in 1988, the company was taken over by his son Marcello, who still runs the business today with dedication and vision. Since the 1990s, Scola Teloni has continued to invest in innovation, completely revamping its electronic welding department and introducing cutting-edge computerised cutting systems that guarantee high precision, optimisation of materials and speed of execution.
In 2010, under the direction of Marcello Scola, the headquarters were further expanded with new areas dedicated to fabric cutting, more efficient warehouses, functional offices and service areas for employees, improving internal organisation and the quality of the working environment. Today, we design and manufacture customised Marquees: circus tents and covers for theatre performances, musicals, concerts, public events and cultural events. Each project is the result of paying careful attention to the customer, with whom we collaborate to define every technical and aesthetic detail.
In our in-house technical office, specialised staff assist the customer in choosing the dimensions, structural forms, technical fabrics and decorations. Once the design has been approved, we move on to the production phase: computerised cutting, welding, manual assembly and finishing. Each marquee is manufactured entirely in our factory in Mantua, in compliance with the highest quality and safety standards.
Scola Teloni's strength lies in its people. Our team is made up of artisans and technicians who have been working with us for decades, guardians of knowledge handed down from generation to generation. Alongside them are young professionals in training, who are growing under the guidance of their more experienced colleagues. This combination of experience and future talent ensures continuity, innovation and quality at every stage of the work.
We believe in the value of internal training, in the dignity of craftsmanship, in the precision of details and in responsibility towards the customer. Every tent we produce is the result of a long history of skilled gestures, conscious choices and a passion for excellence.
After more than 140 years of uninterrupted activity, Scola Teloni continues to be an international benchmark in the field of covers for the entertainment sector. Our vision looks to the future with determination: we want to continue to innovate, train new generations of craftsmen and consolidate our presence in the world, proudly bringing the Mantua manufacturing tradition to every corner of the globe.
